Success for ‘Spend Time in Stokesley’ project

The project ‘Spend Time in Stokesley’ has received a grant of £50,040 from David Skaith, Mayor of York and North Yorkshire and York and North Yorkshire Combined Authority.

Building on the success of the ‘Summer in Stokesley’ range of events, the Council will be able to work with the local business community and High Street businesses to develop a range of community-focused events to promote the High Street, aiming to increase footfall all year round, specifically on the non-market days.

The development of the all-year-round events will allow Stokesley to be considered as a destination for both visitors and residents and provide something for everyone.

The funding will allow the Council to build on professional event management resources to provide a lasting positive infrastructure for the future growth of Stokesley and its High Street.

Chair of the Stokesley Town Council, Sally Atkinson said:

“This is great news for Stokesley to help make the High Street a destination for those visiting and residing in Stokesley. We have been delighted with the response to our ongoing efforts to improve the High Street, and the grant provided enables us to expand and develop the infrastructure to secure community-focused events in the future.”

David Skaith, Mayor of York and North Yorkshire, added:

"High streets are constantly changing, but they have, and always will be, hubs for our communities. That's why I'm backing community led projects across York and North Yorkshire.

Like Spend Time in Stokesley, which will make Stokesley High Street an all year round destination of choice for both residents and visitors.

Residents and businesses understand most what is needed in their communities, and I am proud to be backing their plans with my £10m Vibrant and Sustainable High Street Fund."

The Town Council will now be able to start planning of events for the future and formalise its plans for the Stokesley Sparkle Christmas light switch-on event already planned for Friday 28th November. Further details of this event and those happening in 2026 will be promoted through the Council’s website and social media channels.

Thanks to all our associated partners and Councillors in the development of the grant fund application, and we look forward to creating positive change for Stokesley and the High Street businesses.
